This rare, organic black tea hails from a Himalayan tea-producing region in northern India. Harvested in Second Flush (May/June), our organic Kumaon black tea is fragrant with a light body reminiscent of its Darjeeling counterparts, with a festive vegetal finish.

The Kumaon region was first planted with tea in the 1850s but was too far from any port to get the tea out of the mountains. The tea experiments were abandoned, and for the last 170 years, the tea has thrived in the wild. Beginning in the 1990s, the Indian government initiated a program to revive tea growth as a way to create rural livelihood opportunities.

Contains caffeine.

Aroma and Flavor
Aromatic floral notes with an earthy vegetal flavor.

Brew Instructions
Fill 1 teaspoon of tea in a cloth tea bag or mesh basket and place in your favorite mug. Pour 8 ounces of boiling water over the tea and allow to steep for 3-5 minutes or until desired strength is reached.
