An aromatic resin that has been revered for millennia, myrrh gum continues to be used for its alluring scent and healthful properties today. Myrrh resin is the result of a viscous yellow sap exuded by the tree, Commiphora myrrha, when the bark is damaged. The angular, low-growing, desert tree has spiny branches and is native to Ethiopia and Somalia.

Historical records have shown that myrrh has been used as long ago as 3000 BCE by the ancient Egyptians. Myrrh was often employed in embalming practices and burned during cremations and funerals, a tradition that lasted into the 15th century. Myrrh gum resin has a potent, smoky, and earthy scent and has even been used to anoint kings and bless the fabrics of those on holy pilgrimages.

While myrrh gum has long been revered for its aromatics and used as incense, the resinous sap also has a history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic herbal formulations. It is often employed in conjunction with other botanicals and is even incorporated into salves and other cosmetic applications.

Our myrrh gum granules are a larger mesh size than our myrrh gum powder. Granules are a mix of fine powder and larger, resinous chunks. It is a suitable grind for incense blends and infusions.

Ingredients
Organic myrrh gum resin granules and silicon dioxide.
