Parsley does best in areas with consistently moist but well-drained soil, and full to partial sun exposure. A member of the Apiaceae family, parsley is defined by its dark green, triangular leaves, which range from flat to curly edged. Its highly aromatic leaves are used globally for cooking and as a plating garnish.

Petroselinum crispum grows in gathered clumps to no more than a foot in height. In warmer climates, parsley will bloom many umbels of green to yellow flowers in its second year. To increase leaf production and lifespan, it is recommended to trim back emerging flower stalks.

Parsley seeds should be started indoors 10 to 12 weeks before the last frost date. First, soak seeds overnight to encourage germination, and then scatter over prepared soil in pots or flats the following day. Seedlings should emerge within three weeks and will be ready to move outside shortly before the last spring frost date.
